ABOUT

COACH STEVE KERR.

Owner of Steve Kerr's Skills Camp, Kerr has trained players of all ages, boys and girls, at the Middle School, High School, Division 1, Division 2, Division 3, JUCO, and profressional level. Kerr completed a successful four year career at South Lakes High School, before continuing his playing career at Methodist University, where he earned his degree in Physical and Health Education. Due to injuries, Kerr began following his passion of teaching players how to play the game of basketball. Kerr's purposeful, and detail-oriented approach has led to All-District, and All-Conference accolades for a number of his clients. Kerr is also a licensed member of USA Basketball Youth Development.

WHAT IS SKILL DEVELOPMENT?

Skill development is about the process players go through to maximize their ability. The objective of each training session is to IMPROVE. There are 5 key components to basketball skill development; Footwork, Angles, Pace, Balance, and Efficiency.

 

 

  • Footwork - Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Hakeem Olajuwon, all of these players have impeccable footwork that drove their ability to create, not only for themselves, but others as well. You do not need to be super athletic to develop footwork and be successful. Paul Pierce, future hall of famers, thrived on being able to get to his spots no matter what the situation was.

 

  • Angles - Easiest way to learn how to play defense, learn how to play the angles. Understanding the quickest and most direct route to get to where you need to be offensively, and defensively will boost your skill level tremendously. 

 

  • Pace - A skill that is difficult for yong players to grasp but is essential for all players. Changing speed is vital to one's success with the ball in their hands, and off the ball as well. Be deceptive. Keep your defender, and help side defenders honest. YOU dictate the tempo.

 

  • Balance - The MOST important trait in basketball, and especially important when shooting the ball. Your efficiency decreases significantly when shooting the ball off balance. Engaging your core is a must and will assist in maintaining proper balance throughout a shot, or a finishing move at the basket.

 

  • Efficiency - "Ball-stoppers" have become a bit too common in our game. If you cannot make an aggressive attacking move within 3-4 dribbles, then you need to pass to an open teammate. Did you know Dirk Nowitzki had the ball in his hands an average of 1 minute and 17 seconds per game during the 2014-15 season? Dirk averaged 17.3 points per game. EFFICIENT!

 

 

TRAINING SESSIONS.

INDIVIDUAL

Players will recieve a customized training program that will include a step by step process to improvement. Prior to any on-court development, the player will have a one-on-one consultation to discuss the short, medium and long term goals, Each session has a specific focus for the day.

 

 

SMALL GROUPS

Players will be grouped with others of similiar age and abilities. There will be a maximum of 6 players per group. Players will be invovled in 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3 competition as well as specific training. 

 

TEAM SESSIONS

Team sessions are geared towards the development of individual skills within the team concept. The goal within these sessions are to challenge mental and physical toughness, while building trust within a team dynamic. Our drills are strategically designed to raise the intensitiy level and make the players compete against one another.
